Vitamin D & Brain Health

A 2014 study concluded that Vitamin D deficiency is associated with smaller overall brain volumes.

Recent research used data from 427,690 participants, age 40-69, in the UK Biobank to examine Vitamin Dā€™s association with dementia and stroke.  Brain imaging data for 33,523 participants was included in this study.

Researchers found a causal association between Vitamin D deficiency and risk of dementia at the 10-year follow up with participants.  Those participants with the lowest Vitamin D levels had the greatest dementia risk.

Takeaway:  Identifying and treating Vitamin D deficiency is important to brain health and lowering the risk of dementia.

Well-being is a journey, not a quick fix
