The Brainbow & Immune System
Food can help our immune system successfully fight off a pathogen. A strong immune system requires the interaction of numerous micronutrients in a large variety of healthy food, especially a colorful brainbow of fruit and vegetables.
One study compared immune responses in three groups of animals who were fed 2 to 3 servings, 5 to 6 servings, or 8 to 9 servings of fruit and vegetables per day. The best immune system effect was found in the animals who consumed 8 to 9 servings per day.
Takeaway: To boost your immune system and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cancer, strive to eat 10 portions of diverse fruit and vegetables per day.
