Music Improves Workout

Researchers have discovered that high tempo music may improve your workout by increasing heart rate and lowering perceived exertion.

Female participants (N=19, ages 24-28) performed either an endurance exercise (walking on a treadmill) or a high-intensity exercise (using a leg press).  They completed exercise sessions in silence, and while listening to pop music of different tempos.  Researchers found that listening to high tempo music while working out resulted in the highest heart rate and lowest perceived effort.  The effects were greater for the participants doing endurance exercise than high-intensity exercise.

Adding high tempo music to your workout may improve your fitness by raising your heart rate and making your workout seem easier.

Takeaway: Super-charge your workout with high tempo music.
